Prospective research projects in the WSN Cloud Group.

GPU Cloud: This project will investigate multi-processor multi-GPU based clouds. Real world experimental work as well as scheduling and load balancing of algorimthms between GPUs.

Dynamic Private Clouds: This project will look at the dynamic creation and management of Private Clouds. The focus is on the efficient and secure use of spare computing capacity as a Cloud.

Environment and the Cloud: The dynamic allocation of computing resoruces provided by the Cloud can reduce carbon emissions through more efficient usage of these resources. This research project will investigate the specific applications where the dynamism of Cloud Computing resources can be most effectively used to lower the environmental impact.

Large-scale Scientific Computing with the Cloud: This project will look at the use of Cloud Computing resources to support large-scale scientific computation. This project will investigate the integration of Cloud support into scientific workflow engines that traditionally use Cluster-Computing and Grid Computing resources.

Optimising Cloud Computing: This project will investigate load-balancing and scheduling algorithms for the optimisation of Cloud resources. Load-balancing based on; computing capacity, cost or environmental impact are all valid approaches of inquiry.

Self-organising Wireless Sensor Networks: This project is concerned with the dynamic organisation of wireless sensor networks to support environmental and industrial applications. The Cloud offers stable and plentiful resources that can support WSNs.
